A Preliminary Study of Slant Range Estimation for Observers on Elevated Platforms

A preliminary investigation of aerial estimation of slant range-to-ground targets was conducted on fixed platforms of approximately 25.5, 71, and 105-foot elevations. In addition to the three altitudes, the study compared the effects of increasing observation time from 10 to 20 seconds and extending the ground range of targets from 50 to 1,102 yards. (Author)
