摘要

Submarine galley power requirements vere studied during preparation of meals for 100 men under normal and emergency limp-home conditions in a submarine galley mock-up at the Naval Supply Research and Development Facility. Limp-home conditions vere assumed to be "operation of the vessel without nuclear power, but with limited electrical power available from an auxiliary diesel power supply". An adequate subsistence system was devised under the following conditions: (l) every third day a 3-day supply of bread is baked and cold or sandwich meals are served; (2) on the non-baking days one cold meal or sandwich meal and two hot meals, each consisting of one-dish items, such as casseroles and grilled items, are served; (3) coffee is available for 12 hours per day. For these conditions, the maximum power demand at any one time is approximately 17 kw with a total daily power usage varying from approximately 33 to 52 kw-h. These power demands and usages represent approximately 54% of normal demand (peak load for normal galley operations) and approximately 39% of normal usage (total power usage for normal galley operations) when preparing meals for 100 men. For subsisting 150 men, under the same conditions, demand remains at 17 kw, but maximum power consumption rises to 72 kw-h.
