SELF PRIMING SPILLWAY SYPHONS - AN APPRAISAL

摘要

The principal advantages of siphon spillways over conventional spillways are given as their capacity to discharge large quantities of water for a small increase in head and the reduced dam free¬board permitted by this characteristic. Siphon spillways are then classified into various groups according to their construction and priming method. Some of the main aspects of self priming design are discussed with particular emphasis on the desirability of using air control or partialisation to make the transition between zero and maximum flow less severe. Finally the importance and rele¬vance of model tests is discussed.nProfiles of 19 functioning or model siphons are given as well as an extensive bibliography.
