An investigation into the causes of failure of granolithic floor toppings has been undertaken "by the author. In this paper many of the problems encountered are discussed and recommendations are given for the design and construction of granolithic floor toppings.nThe three basically different methods of construction are defined and their merits discussed. Curling, breaking of bond between base and topping concretes, and cracking are the most common failures and are less likely to occur in floors where the topping has been laid monolithically with the structural base concrete.
