The objective of this program was to develop a design concept which will minimize catastrophic flight control failures through appropriate pilot controller integration. This report describes a systematic procedure com posed of techniques within the field of flight control design, reliability, and human factors which yields a practical approach for effective design of an integrated pilot-controller system.nApplication of the procedure was made to an advanced vehicle mission phase as an aid to the study group in determining practicality of the approach. Areas where further advances of the study are limited by the state-of-the-art are pointed out as recommendations for future investigation.
