It has withstood several crucial tests of its validity, so that there can be little doubt of the general adequacy of its assumptions. While itself profiting from new observations and concepts it has provided a jump-off point for new measurements and has introduced order and stimulus to the investigation of a complicated acoustic problem.nThe vigor of the current program is also the result of an enlightened Service approach to research management. Within its framework an intimate working partnership between theoreticians and experimentalists was created. Lines of communications and channels for the rapid interchange of information were set up among the often widely-dispersed contributors, thus providing rapid critique, incorporation of new observations into the theoretical model and guidance for the experimental measurements. Access to classified reports and to engine development problems provided the essential link with practical experience.
