The one thing on which there seems to be a general agreement is, that much more research must be done to deter-mine exactly what occurs within the machine part that is subjected to a vibrating environment. This research must not be confined to the time before fatigue fracture first appears, but must be extended to the time between fracture initiation and complete failure.
