摘要

A radiometric method of tool wear determination was investigated and evaluated. The effects of variables such as cutting fluids, cutting speeds and the use of a single cutting edge for one or more than one cutting condition were studied. Results obtained visually and radiometrically were compared. Good corelation existed between volumetric wear rates obtained by both methods. The radiometric method does not give information on the nature of the tool wear geometry. Differences in volumetric wear rate were found when only one cutting edge was used for a variable as compared to a single cutting edge used for more than one variable.
