Long periods of observations of ambient noise, wind speed and wind direction were made during 1962 in an area off Bimini in the Bahamas. Noise from two depths, 65 feet and 12C0 feet, was analyzed employing techniques to reduce the effects of noise of nearby ships on the results. A proposed system is described which will sequentially record ambient noise along with several oceanographic parameters, automatically process this information, and record the data on punched cards in a format suitable for computer operation.
