Temperatures were determined at which the beneficial effects of shot peening on the fatigue properties of chromium-plated "Dynaflex" high strength steel would be nullified. It was found that the beneficial effects were retained with exposure to heat up to 1000F, with little or no decrease in fatigue properties.nIt was also established that the fatigue limit of the unpeened plated steel increased with exposure to higher temperatures, until at 1000F the fatigue limit value for the plated steel nearly approached those of the bare, the peened, and the plated-and-peened steel.
