I. We assume chat a surface consists of surface elements whose normals are distributed in space according to definite laws. Equations have been formulated for calculating the intensity of diffusely reflected and transmitted light, taking into account the polarization both of a narrow incident beam and of diffuse incident radiation.nII. The results of calculations of the spectral distribution of directnand scattered radiation are given for various conditions of atmosphericnturbidity, with regard to the absorption of water vapor, carbon dioxide,nand ozone. Calculations for a standard radiation model of the atmospherenagree nicely with average experimental data.nIII. Several questions regarding the accuracy of the Sobolev approximatenmethod are discussed.
