Approaches to the Taxonomy of Social Situations: Task or Situation

摘要

This presentation is divided into two parts, theoretical and empirical. The theoretical section will attempt to justify a programmatic proposal for multivariate studies of species' behavior repertories and environmental habitats as a necessary step toward a systematic formulation of behavior theory in phylogenetic perspective. The Implications of this position are believed to be far reaching. They apply to the immediate problems of social psychology, but are also relevant to the science of psychology in its broadest frame of reference. The empirical section will present the results of some current research carried out with the support of the Group Psychology Branch of the Office of Naval Research. These data are more directly related to my assigned topic.
