A Coding Format and Machine Method for Specific and Generic Coding of Lists of Chemical Names

This system is an attempt to facilitate the ease and reliability of use of a large alphabetical 1 y arranged thesaurus containing chemical names. The authors realize that the method does not completely eliminate ambiguity and that noise will be ever-present in the print out lists. Reduction of the difficulties inherent in the use of large thesauri should streamline the search effort enough to compensate for the added cost.
