This thesis Introduces input encoding for synchronous sequential machines The Input encoder changes the binary representations of the Inputs to simplify the machine’s gat¬ing circuitry. Algorithms are developed for input assignment based on the principles of input equivalence and Input adjacencies An input pair is determined for a state of the machine when two inputs cause a transition Into the same next-state These input pairs are weighted according to the number of times they occur, and these data determine the In¬put assignments Examples are considered and the reductions measured using a diode count. Recommendations are made for further study.
