Research Note Determination of Parachute Descent Times and Impact Locations for High Altitude Balloon Payloads

Tables relating a wide range of payloads, terminal velocities, release altitudes, and descent times are presented for six flat-circular parachutes that measure from 12 to 100 ft in diameter. These data, together with a tabular method for forecasting drift trajectory and impact point, have proved to be accurate and convenient in expediting recovery of scientific payloads released from high-altitude balloons.
