RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT ON AN EXPANDABLE FOAMED PLASTIC FIELD HOSPITAL LITTER-BED FINAL REPORT – PHASEⅠ

This report covers the work performed under Contract No. DA 49-193-MD-2422, Development of an Expandable Foamed Plastic Field Hospital Litter-Bed. This work included the engineering services, selection of materials, and investigations necessary to design, develop, and fabricate a prototype field hospital litter bed utilizing foam-in-place expanded foam plastic. This development was conducted in the following phases:nPhase A - Preliminary Study - Review of literature and available data on materials and methods applicable to this problem with selection of those warranting complete investigation.nPhase B - Detailed Investigation - Investigation of foam-in-place materials including experimental foaming and determination of foaming techniques.nPhase C - Fabrication - Fabrication of several full scale prototype field hospital litter beds.nPhase D - Testing - Selection of materials and structural configurations to provide prototype models with use characteristics.nPhase E - Documentation - Reports and drawings as required by the contracting agency.
