A major problem la computing the levels of noise being transmitted through the sea-connected piping systems. Since few actual acoustical design techniques are currently available, some guidelines are necessary for the piping engineer. This manual is a basic handbook for quiet system design intended for use by a man with training in hydraulics.nSome of the basic tenets governing the contents of this manual are as follows:n(a) The primary function of piping systems is, of course, the transport of fluid; hence, the basic design criteria should be hydraulic.n(b) When there is a choice of design with only a moderate loss of efficiency in the system, the quieter system should be chosen.n(e) The most critical requirement for quiet submarine operation is the reduction of far-field radiated noise.
