In particular, if the matched filter is of the linear, passive type, the individual-component values have to be accurate to more than six decimal places for signal time-bandwidth products of 100. The accuracy require-ment becomes more severe as the signal time-bandwidth product increases. Not only is it difficult to fabricate components to such accuracies, but minute changes in component values occur with time (aging effect). As a consequence, the performance of the matched filter will deteriorate with time, and the filter will rapidly become unusable when time-bandwidth products of several hundred are used.
