This report covers a performance test of an air-to-air, 6,000-Btu/hr, thermoelectric air conditioner prototype. The purpose of the test was to determine the performance of the air conditioner under various conditions and to reveal any new factors which should "be investigated in a further study of thermoelectric air conditioning. The report concludes :a. The capacity of the air conditioner is 6,000 Btu/hr at 90 F entering air temperature and 110° F ambient with a direct current of I30 amps and a net C. 0. P. =* O.3I6 watts/watt.nb. The thermoelectric air conditioner is not comparable with vapor compression cycle air conditioners with respect to full load C. 0. P.c. The C. 0. P. increases with decreasing load so that there will be conditions when a thermoelectric air conditioner will employ less power than a vapor compression cycle military air conditioner for the same cooling when both machines are used at half load. d. A better heat exchanger arrangement would permit use of fewer and more efficient fans, thus improving the net C. 0. P. and making it approach the thermoelectric C. 0. P. for a wider load range.
