Geodesy, like all other sciences, has both scientific and prac-tical purpose, The scientific purposes of geodesy are:n1) To determina the dimensions of the earth’s ellipsoid;n2) to determine the deviations between the goopotiontial surfaces and the spheropotiontial surfaces not only at sea level, but also at any elevation;n3) to determine physical constants of the earth;nU) to study in cooperation with other earth sciences the interior structure of the earth near the surface.
