One of the major limitations on cathode-ray tube display systems is the transfer function of the cathode-ray tube. Except in special cases such as linear variables being displayed as the third variable on a dis-play system, the information handling ability of an uncorrected display system is quite poor. A method of "gamma correction" of this transfer function involves the use of frequency intensity modulation (FIM) nstead of the usual amplitude intensity modulation (AIM).
