The reason for the difficulty in finding fully definitive criteria for distinguishing between the solid and liquid state is evident. It consists of the fact that there is considerable similarity between liquids and solids which have been heated to high temperatures. But in spite of this, there should also be a quite definite difference between them.nIn looking for criteria, in our opinion one should not begin with the difference in deformation velocity of solids and liquids, but with the reason for the difference.
