Study of Meteorological Instrumentation and Telemetry Systems Suitable for 70-150 Km Altitude

This report contains the recommendations which were developed during a four weeks study of sounding rocket instrumentation and telemetry suitable for the altitude interval of 75 to 150 kilometers. The instruments measured the following structural parameters: (a) pressure, (b) temperature, (c) density, (d) relative humidity, and (e) ozone. Based on the findings of this study seven instruments were selected which merit consideration for development into rocket probe systems. Composite payloads consisting of combinations of complementary instruments are defined, and a development program for these composite payloads is described. In addition, modifications to the AN/GMD-2 telemetry and tracking system are recommended to make it compatible with rocket probe instrumentation. (Author)
