ECONOMIC METHODS AND CRITERIA USED IN THE SELECTION OF INVESTMENTS IN THE ELECTRIC POWER INDUSTRY

The nature of the ownership and management of the undertaking, the modes of financing and the type of electricity production do not affect appreciably the general structure of the calculations for the purpose of the economic analysis to be made in order to classify investments according to their economic order of priority. While the methods of calculation used by countries with different economic systems have certain common features, due allowance should at the same time be made for the peculiarities of these systems which might in some cases materially influence the results of the calculations and of the decisions to be taken.nSome countries use economic calculation methods which differ both in regard to the composition and the form of the calculations of various expenses involved in the establishment and operation of electric power plants, and also in the extent to which accurate records are kept of economic and power supply conditions which may be different at different times during the construction and operation period.
