摘要

It is fairly well established that the thermal conductivity (1,2) of most polymeric materials shows a definite change in slope at the glass-transition temperature (Tg). It has also been shown that many plastics are anisotropic in their heat conduction when oriented by stretching (3). A critical survey of published data on the thermal conductivity (k) of polystyrene (4) made in this laboratory showed no clear evidence of a change in slope of the k-curve at Tg. It also showed a rather wide scattering among the published data. The present investigation was undertaken to provide accurate values of k, to establish the behavior of k at T and to see if stretched polystyrene had a different thermal conductivity from unstretched. p1.
