摘要

This report presents the results of a study of the combined influence of higher order linear effects and nonlinear effects on the lateral vibration behavior of solid and sandwich beams in the presence of axial load. The higher order linear effects considered are transverse shear and rotatory inertia. The nonlinear effects considered are those which arise due to stretching of the longitudinal fibers of the beam during vibration. This stretching results from the consideration of variable axial boundary restraint. The predicted vibration behavior provides new design information for solid and sandwich beams of either metal or plastic construction, and correlates excellently in various limiting cases with the theoretical and experimental results obtained by previous investigators.
