Analysis and Biodynamics of Selected Rocketsled Experiments. Part I. Biodynamics of Maximal Decelerations. Part II. Dynamic Response of Restrained Subject During Abrupt Deceleration

Part I presents the methods and procedures used to expose adult anesthetized chimpanzee subjects to high levels of deceleration during 23 experiments on the rocket-sled. Deceleration was accomplished by programmed water inertia braking where trapezoidal patterns were produced. Part II presents the results of a study made to determine the relationship of the many variables involved when a restrained subject is exposed to an abrupt deceleration by the application of a basic forcing function to the supporting vehicle. The studies include the response of the restraints under both static and dynamic loads.
