The Development of a Methodology for the Analysis of Complex Man-Machine Systems

The objective of this research is to develop a methodology for the construction of models of complex man-machine systems. The methodology combines observation and measurement of existing systems with logical agrument to relate these measures in the tradition of the hypotheticodeductive methods. Procedures were developed for extending the classic methods of science from the controlled laboratory environment to the real world. In order to develop a general view of system phenomena, inductive methods are employed. A representative system, the ASW submarine weapon-system, was studied. (Author)
