Low-Frequency Electromagnetic Oscillations of the Earth-Ionosphere Cavity

The observational and theoretical work on the low frequency electromagnetic oscillations of the earthionosphere cavity, known as the Schumann resonances, is reviewed. Additional theoretical considerations are introduced that allow the models to incorporate all the important complications of the real ionosphere. The comparisons between the theoretical predictions and the observational data lead to implications about the structure of the very low ionosphere, and the geometry of ionospheric perturbations which are discussed.
