Study and Investigation of Polarization Programming. Volume II: Polarization Systems Analysis

Three systems are proposed for utilization of polarization programming in a ground-to-ground, overthe-horizon, tropospheric-scatter-propagation communications link. These are instantaneous polarization programming, orthogonal-mode polarization programming, and rapid polarization programming. It is shown that all three systems are theoretically feasible and can lead to significant increases in signal-to-interference ratios achievable. A detailed description and evaluation of each system is presented, based on the assumptions of slowly varying polarization of an interfering signal and non-depolarization of desired signal by the propagation medium. Comparisons are presented of the relative utility of the three systems as well as their relation to present communication systems. Conclusions and recommendations for further study are presented.
