Work accomplished during the first quarter of a one year investigative program for the development of improved atmospheric contamination resistance above 2200 F, room temperature ductility, and high temperature strength of chromium-ceramic composite materials was limited to a study of the effect of raw material impurities on oxidation resistance. The minor impurity content of raw magnesia used for preparation of a chromium-6% MgO composite appeared to effect a two-fold increase in the oxidation weight gain resistance of the material. Efforts directed toward further improvement of oxidation resistance and strength are presently under way. (Author)
