Good agreement was obtained in comparing the measured yields of N13 and F18 in H20 with estimates based on calculations of the neutron induced flux of knock-on protons and on published cross-section data fornthe reactions O16 (p,∝)N and O18 (p, n)F16. The similarly yield of F17 in D20 due to the reaction O16 (d, n)F17 was 6 times less than the observed yield. This discrepancy could not be eliminated by taking into account the anisotropy of the neutron-scattering by deuterons.nThe formation of F18 in D20 was attributed to the reaction O17 (d, n) F18. This reaction may be utilized for the determination of the O17 O16 ratio in heavy water by neutron activation analysis, e. g, as a means of differentiating between heavy water qualities, obtained by diffe¬rent techniques of enrichment.
