This Report describes an optical processing system which can perform matrix transformations of vectors of large dimensionality at exceedingly wide processing bandwidths by parallel analog techniques. Input vectors of wide bandwidth, up to 10 megacycles, are recorded as surface deformations on a thermoplastic film. A unique optical processing system utilizing a photographic plate bearing the matrix automatically performs the required matrix transformation. The output vector is displayed on a cathode-ray tube and additionally recorded on the thermoplastic film. This approach will potentially permit matrix transformations of vectors with 1,000 resolvable elements at rates from 1 to 10 per second and perhaps higher. (Author)
