摘要

The effect of inosine added to ACD and CPD is an inhibition of glu¬cose utilization accompanied by pentose breakdown with little change in lactate production. Ester phosphate is stabilized, but ion transport appears to be unaffected. Inosine breakdown is complete at 35 days of storage. In vivo studies in humans and rabbits show' acceptable preser-vation of red cells up to 21) days <>f storage. Addition of inosine to ACD and CPD bloods at 1M and 21 days prolongs the storage period to 20 days.nThere is a definite relationship to red cell age (by Fe59) and density (differential centrifugation), the youngest cells being the lightest. The uptake of Cr5l is determined by population distribution, being greatest in the youngest and progressively increasing with age. The extreme differential may be as high as 10 per cent in fresh cells and increases progressively on refrigerated storage.
