METHOD FOR INCREASED DATA RATE IN TRANSMISSION OVER TIME- VARYING MULTIPLE PATHS

The bandwidth and data rate of communication over multiple paths (such as tropospheric scatter) are limited by time spread. If the characteristics of the transmission channel vary slowly, they can be probed by a pilot signal and corrected.nThe proposed method transmits evenly spaced pilot pulses that are separated from the messages by isolation gaps, and corrects the path distortion by analyzing the complex frequency characteristic of the received pilot pulses. An increase in data rate of from105 to 3.106 per second appears feasible under some conditions.
