Preliminary Studies of the Impulse-Noise Effects on Human Hearing (Project Humin)

The report summarizes the accomplishments of the U. S. Army Human Engineering Laboratories impulsenoise program (Project HUMIN). After reviewing past research and stating the rationale for studying how impulse noise affects human subjects, it gives detailed descriptions of the apparatus and procedures which have been developed for the program. The results of four preliminary impulse-noise experiments with human subjects are presented and discussed, together with certain special problems which have arisen during the conduct of the program. The projected future course of the project is outlined. (Author)
