摘要

Field investigations were conducted at Sacramento Peak, Sunspot, New Mexico, during the period 23 March-4 April 1964 for the purpose of obtaining continuous 6-in. rock cores to a depth of 230 ft and geologic data to provide complete information on the in situ rock to be encountered by a construction contractor in shaft excavation for the proposed vacuum solar telescope. A 6-in. core boring was drilled to a depth of 232.4 ft. A total core recovery of 95.6 percent was obtained for the boring. The rock encountered in the core boring was a moderately to highly fractured and jointed dolomitic limestone with thin clay seams and layers of siltstone. Probable evidences of high-angle faulting were discerned at two intervals in the core boring. No groundwater was present in the hole to a depth of 232.4 ft.
