The Suspension Band Mark 78 Mod 0 Assembly, BUWEPS DWG. 1803383, Figure 1, has been designed for suspending a Torpedo Mark 44 and/or Torpedo Mark 46 on aircraft. The assembly consists of two suspension band sub-assemblies, BUWEPS Dwg. 1803526, one release wire 13" long, two release wires 42" long and safety wire. It is designed for torpedoes 12-3/4 inches in diameter weighing up to 600 pounds. A Loading Tool Assembly, BUWEPS Dwg. 1873836, has been designed for the installation of the sub-assembly around the torpedo.nThe Suspension Band Mark 78 Mod 0 has been satisfactorily tested with a Torpedo Mark 46 Mod 0 mounted externally on an aircraft up to indicated air speeds of 500 knots and has also been subjected to air¬craft catapult, take offs, and arrestment landings, in conformity with Military Specification MIL-A-8591 entitled "Airborne Stores and Associ¬ated Suspension Equipment] General Design Criteria for."
