The 2N3375 overlay transistor has been operated in a recently discovered mode which results in both power amplification and frequency multiplication. It has been operated, in a doubler circuit, with a 1-watt power input at 500 megacycles and has provided 2.5 watts of output power at 1000 mega¬cycles.nThe performance of the device, when operated as a multiplier, has been shown to depend on its amplification capability at the input frequency, that is, power output and gain and the multiplying efficiency of the collector-to-base capacitance.
