A Glimpse of the Chinese Language: Peking's Language Reforms and the Teaching of Chinese in the United States

摘要

An informative general survey of the history, evolution, and current usage of the written Chinese language is presented. Three major systems of romanization for written Chinese are given along with a comparative key to these systems, a table of simplified Chinese characters, an index to Chinese phonetics, a list of Chinese radicals, and a list of the Old National Phonetic Symbols. The teaching of Chinese in the United States and opportunities available for study of the language are also discussed.
