Experimental Study of the Causative Agent of Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever

Bitterroot strain of the causative agent of the Rocky Mountain spotted fever--Rickettsia rickettsi, was studied by various methods, i. e. by culturing in the yolk sac of chick embryos, infection of various laboratory animals, in experiments of cross immunity on guinea pigs immunised with the live and killed cultures of various rickettsiosis pathogens, and by the serological method in experiments of direct and cross titration with the immune sera to various causative agents of rickettsiosis. None of these methods demonstrated any significant difference between the Bitterroot strain and the causative agent of the NorthAsian rickettsiosis--Dermacentroxenus sibiricus. (Author)
