Studies of Uranium Oxide Production from Ores by Carbonate Leaching

The leaching of a number of low grade uranium ores with ammonium carbonate solutions both at room temperature and at elevated temperature and pressure has been studied. The recovery of a uranium concentrate by direct precipitation from the liquors obtained has also been examined. Two precipitation methods have been investigated - steam stripping and hydrogen pressure reduction. Both methods gave concentrates containing approximately 80％ U3O8 from certain ores.
