1.tIn 1849 George Stokes derive his famous formula for determining the earth’s actual level surface, i.e., the surface of the so-called geoid [1].n2.tThe coefficient at function T, pertaining to the compareison surface, i. e. , to the triaxial ellipsoid, can be calculated on the basis of formulate obtained by the author for indicated form of the level surface see[5].n3.tLet us now use equation (14) for finding the disturbing potential T.n4.tWe shall now derive a formula similar to Stokes’ formula for the case of an ellipsoidal level surface.n5.tFinally, for practice the most interesting is the particular case of formula(I),which we obtained, namely, the case of the ellipsoid of rotation.
