摘要

An extensive theoretical study and analysis has been carried out. It is now possible to quantitatively define the interrelationships and trade-offs which exist between major design parameters affecting the improvement in signal-to-noise ratio by using the smoothing multiplier principle. The frame time, resolution, smoothing time and gain preceding the smoothing device are shown to be important design variables. The maximum possible improvement is shown to be equal to the square root of the gain so that large gains are important to achieve best results using the smoothing principle. The dependence of gain and other parameters on signal-to-noise improvements are detailed by means of graphs as well as theoretical equations.
