摘要

To provide the data necessary for the development of a realistic dif¬fusion model for the San Nicolas Island area, measurements of the physical properties of the rocket exhaust by-products were required. This know¬ledge was essential in estimating the degree of land contamination to be expected on San Nicolas Island, the atmospheric dilution of the cloud at various downwind distances, and the possible toxic effects. Since the number of planned firings was small, additional diffusion measurements were needed in the development of the diffusion model. These were under-taken using a non-toxic tracer material, zinc cadmium sulfide.
