APPLICATION OF PRE-DETECTION AND RECORDING TECHNIQUES TO DATA COLLECTION SYSTEMS

Pre-detection recording techniques have found wide application for gathering telemetry information with the advantages of reduced receiving station equipment, reduced system operation functions, allowing a variety of signal processing techniques for data reduction to be applied, and the ability to handle different signal formats. The application of pre-detection recording techniques to uncooperative signal acquisition retains these advantages, but special techniques may be necessary for wide band signals and AM. Several down and up-conversion and tape-recording techniques with application to uncooperative signals are discussed in this report.
