This study has considered the photoelectric detect¬or (either photo-emissive or solid-state) as a communication channel, with the lntended goal of maximizing the transinfor-mation per degree of freedom, in the sense Introduced by Shannon, transmitted through this channel.nA discussion is given demonstrating the application of Information Theory to the statistics of the photodetector.
