OPEN-HEART SURGERY

The network of institutions successfully performing rather complex cardiac operations increases from year to year. The time is past when cardiac surgery was the concern of only the most specialized clinic, of the largest medical institutions in the Soviet Union and when there was. a covert competition to perform the first cardiac operation. We have now entered on a period in which we can insist on collective work f a large number of institutions, which undoubtedly yields substantially better results in the development, mastery, and practical introduction of new methods of cardiac surgery.
