UNIQUE METHODS OF VIRAL COLLECTION AND IDENTIFICATION

In an effort to find new and unique methods for virus collection and identification which would identify fewer than 100 plaque forming units in 6 hr. and be suitable for eventual automation, we have investigated briefly about 20 possible approaches to the problem. In this study special consideration has been given to the potential sensitivity and specificity of the methods. Some experiments were conducted with nearly every method in order to assess the potential of the method for meeting the objectives of the study.
