A method for experimentally determining the magnetic flux density B as a function, of time and space in a dense, extreme temperature, highly dynamic, deuterium plasma was developed. The method employed the 3.39.u infrared radiation from a HeNe gas maser as a probe. The plasma electron density and the Faraday rotation of the plane of the polarization of the maser beam which propagated through the plasma were measured separately. These two measurements and the laws of propagation of electromagnetic waves in a magnetized plasma were used to deduce the magnetic field B in the plasma.
